Expert Answers about Chevrolet Trailer Dolly

  • Does Higher Capacity Trailer Dolly Move Trailer More Easily
  • That's certainly a reasonable assumption, but the capacity of the trailer dolly won't actually be a factor in how easily it moves your trailer. What matters is the dolly itself and how it's configured. For example, I recommend the Rack'em Trailer Dolly # RA20, which has a 500 lb tongue weight capacity with 24" wheel spacing for easy maneuverability. This dolly will work with a coupler that accepts a 1-7/8" hitch ball; if you need a dolly with a 2" ball I have added a link below to our...

  • Can Vehicle Back Up While Towing Vehicle on a Tow Dolly
  • The simple answer is that you do not. It's not recommended to back a vehicle that has either a flat towed vehicle or a vehicle on a tow dolly behind it because of how short the distance between the vehicles is. Attempting to do so will cause a jackknife that will damage the tow vehicle, the tow dolly or the vehicle on the dolly. Or all three. The only way you can safely back while towing would be to place the vehicle on a flatbed trailer, or to remove the dolly from the tow vehicle.

  • Trailer Valet RVR5 Remote-Controlled Trailer Dolly & Exposed Elements
  • While the Trailer Valet RVR5 Remote-Controlled Trailer Dolly, # TVRVR5 is a well built unit it is also heavy in electronics and you should avoid getting this wet by leaving in the exposed elements. I suggest you consider the Trailer Valet XL Trailer Dolly with Chain Drive, # TVXL2. While I still would place a cover over this when not being used, it can be stored outside. This functions well with the supplied hand crank but you do have the option of using a drill to convert this to a...

  • Is Trailer Breakaway Kit Required for Tow dolly
  • You do ask a good question. A breakaway system is not required when using the Roadmaster Tow Dolly. And yes, there would definitely be a risk of the towed car jackknifing if the dolly brakes engaged after the trailer decoupling. The rear of the towed car could come around sideways and make a bad situation worse. My technical contact at Roadmaster confirmed that the above information is correct.

  • Will 3,500 lb Electric Trailer Brakes Add Width to Tow Dolly
  • None; no width at all will be added to your tow dolly if you install the Electric Trailer Brake Kit - Self-Adjusting - 10" - Left and Right Hand Assemblies - 3,500 lbs # AKEBRK-35-SA. These will fit right inside your 10" diameter drum which is why there won't be any width added. To install these brakes you'll also need Mounting Hardware # BRKH10B.

  • Can 2019 Honda Fit Be Towed on Tow Dolly
  • According to information found in the owner's manual and online, automatic transmission equipped 2019 Fit models can't be flat towed, but can be pulled using a tow dolly like the Roadmaster # RM-2050-1. It would also be acceptable to pull the vehicle on a flat bed trailer. I've linked to a product demonstration video for the # RM-2050-1 Tow Dolly.

  • Do Tow Dollies Need to Be Licensed and Insured
  • Let's begin with the issue of insurance. A tow dolly like the Roadmaster # RM-2000-1 would usually not need a separate insurance policy, as it would be covered under the policy of the vehicle towing it, but the vehicle on it would need to be insured. The purchase of a new tow dolly would include a manufacturer's statement of origin (MSO) that's the equivalent of a title, but the additional requirements can vary by state. In many states a tow dolly doesn't need to be licensed, but it usually...

  • Can 2015 Mitsubishi Mirage With manual Transmission Be Flat-Towed
  • Per the owner's manual for your 2015 Mirage, it cannot be flat-towed. You can, however use a tow dolly like the RoadMaster Tow Dolly with Electric Brakes, part # RM-2050-1. Using a tow dolly does eliminate the need for base plates on your mirage and also the need for a tow bar. You will need a brake controller like part # 90885. This is one of our most popular because it is easy to install and operate. Since the tow dolly comes with a 4-way connector you will need to replace it with...

  • How to Tow 2018 Nissan Rogue With Front Wheel Drive Behind Motorhome
  • I took a look at the owner's manual for a 2018 Nissan Rogue and it stated that this vehicle cannot be flat towed, and can only use a tow dolly if you have a front wheel drive version. For this, the manual states to "Place the ignition switch in the OFF position ... Never secure the steering wheel by placing the ignition switch in the LOCK position. This may damage the steering lock mechanism." For a tow dolly I highly recommend the Demco Kar Kaddy SS Tow Dolly with Disc Brakes - Foldable...

  • Can a 2017 Volkswagen Touareg be Dolly Towed
  • I was not able to locate an online version of the owner's manual for either your 2017 or 2018 Volkswagen Touareg but from my research, neither of them can be dolly towed as they must be towed on a trailer with all four wheels off the ground. I highly recommend you confirm this using your owner's manual.

  • Can 2017 Jeep Renegade Be Flat Towed Behind Motorhome
  • The 2017 Jeep Renegade isn't capable of being flat towed. 4WD vehicles must be trailer towed, and FWD vehicles may be dolly towed, according to the owner's manual. The Demco Kar Kaddy SS you'd looked at, part # DM9713045 is what I'd recommend. Many RV parks are pretty tight on the space, with little room for a tow dolly and a motorhome along with the towed vehicle, but the Kar Kaddy SS has a foldable ramp and tongue so it takes up very little space. This also comes in handy back home,...

  • How to Tow 2014 Kia Soul on a Tow Dolly
  • If you're using a tow dolly like the Roadmaster # RM-2050-1, the steering wheel would remain locked and the transmission would be left in Park because the front wheels of the Soul would be up on the tow dolly. If the tow dolly you're using has electric brakes like the Roadmaster model I mentioned, you'll need a trailer brake controller like the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 # 90885 installed on the tow vehicle. If you'd care to reply with the year, make and model of the vehicle you'll be towing...

  • What Type of Balancing Process Is Used for Special Trailer Tires
  • Special trailer tires do not really need to be given a full dynamic balance like passenger vehicle tires do, but tires on a tow dolly probably should be balanced since just these two tires will have an effect the overall handling of the dolly. I checked with Acme and they do recommend use of balanced tires on their tow dollies to minimize vibration. The bead balancing technique originated in the heavy equipment world, on vehicles like dumps trucks for example, which typically have very...

You will want to confirm this in your copy of the owner's manual. Since you can tow your Tucson using a tow dolly we do have some options available to you. Part # RM-2050-1 is a basic version that is rated for 4,250 lbs and has the option to use electric brakes. The former dolly has loose wires...

  • Can Trailer Valet XL Be Used on Sloping Driveway
  • The Trailer Valet XL, part # TVXL2 with 2 inch ball and the # TVXL25 with the 2-5/16 inch ball are meant for use on level surfaces only, they wouldn't work well on the slope you describe.. Actually, I have a much less expensive and easier to use alternative. I'd install a front mounted receiver like # C31073; the front hitch will allow you to easily put that camper right where you want it, slope or no slope, every time.
